How To's/How To's - Public
Author:Frank Shrum
Basic Forum Help For Beginners Introduction Forum Help Since you are reading this page then it is safe to say to that you already know basic website navigation such as typing web addresses, clicking through links and maybe even watching or listening to multimedia. That's great! What we'll do here is try to familiarize you with how to use our forum and its many options. When you get done reading this you will be able to reply to existing posts as well as make new posts. You will know how to format your text, make links, add images and videos and much more. We're not going to teach you how to use every little button, gizmo or forum feature but rather provide you sufficient working knowledge to feel comfortable enough to get involved here in the forum. After that, you can do a sleuthing around to learn what the rest of the goodies do. Set up your profile When you find a community and forum that you like and plan on staying with for a while it is a good idea to set up and complete your profile. You access your profile by clicking 'My Profile' located at the top of the forum. This area is not much different than any other form you have filled out online or in real life except that much of the information in here is optional. Personal Info Summary - All your settings from other tabs summarized. Edit Your Details - Edit your login name, email address and password. My Avatar - Select an avatar from those available or upload your own image. If you upload your own image, you can upload an image up to 250 x 250 pixels and 50 kilobytes. The forum will automatically scale the image for use in various locations. Forum Settings Look and Layout - Tweak a few forum appearance settings. My Profile Info - Fill in personal information that you don't mind sharing publicly. This is also where you fill out your forum signature. My Posts - List of your posts ordered by most recent. Handy for finding a post that you don't recall which board you posted it in. My Subscribes - List of topics that you have subscribed to send you an email notification for all new responses. My Favorites - List of topics that you have ticked as a favorite of yours so they are more easily identifiable in the forum list. Remember to press the 'Save' button any time you make changes in your profile. Reply to an existing post So, you have been lurking around the forum for a while reading every post and getting to know everyone. You have just read someone's post and you have finally decided you are going to reply and contribute some information of your own. Great! This is done by pressing one of the 'reply' buttons. Quick Reply - this brings up a small text area (without reloading the webpage) where you can quickly type a short reply. Press 'Submit' when you are done typing your response. If you have a change of heart you can press cancel and nothing gets posted regardless if you typed anything or not. Reply - This is the standard method in which you should reply when you want to reply primarily to the most recent post. The reason for this is because the subject line of your reply will autofill with the subject of the post from which you are replying. In case you were wondering, yes, you can change the subject. OK, now you are looking at what is called a text editor. Think of it as a slimmed down version of a word processor (such as Microsoft Word) in which you can format your text, add links, images, smilies, etc. More on how to format your post later. For now, type your response and press the 'Preview' button at the bottom of the page if you wish to view your post prior to submitting it. When you are done editing and are satisfied your post is ready to contribute to the forum then press the 'Submit' button. Quote - If you wish to quote someone's post whether in whole or in part you simple press the 'Quote' button located beside the 'Reply' button underneath each post. The is very useful if you wish to make light of or expand upon a prior post. Once you press the Quote button you are brought into the same editing environment that you use to edit or create any other post. At this point, you type your response directly to that quote. When you are done replying, press the 'Submit' button. Reply Topic - This button functions the same as the 'Reply' button with the exception that your subject line will autofill with the subject of the original post (OP). This may come in handy if you replying to a long post whose subjects may have changed over time but you want to reply to the OP. When you are done replying, press the 'Submit' button. Create a new post of your own Now that you have responded to a few other posts, and feel like an accepted member of the community, you want to tell us a little bit about yourself. To do this, you should start your very own topic so we can properly respond and greet you. Navigate to our General board and click on it so that you can see the list of all of the existing posts. At the top of the list is a button labeled 'New Thread'. Click that button to start your very own topic. You are placed at the same text editor that you used earlier when replying to posts. Simply type your message telling us all about yourself and press 'Submit'. Now you have your own post topic in the list. Format your post Remember we said earlier that the text editor is very similar to a word processor? Well, as in any word processor you can format and arrange your text for emphasis here in the forum. The first, basic thing you should know is that the forum uses what's called BBcode or Bulletin Board Code. BBcode uses 'tags' to 'mark up' your text. Each 'tag' has an opening and closing 'tag' denoted within brackets. An opening tag will look like [ ] and a closing tag looks like [/ ]. Notice the slash in the closing bracket is the only thing that is different. If you forget the slash, the forum will interpret your closing bracket as an opening bracket. The easiest way to 'mark up' your text is usually to type it out first, then select it, and press the appropriate button at the top of the editor. For example, if you wanted to make 'some text' bold you would type it out 'some text', then select 'some text' with your mouse, and then press the 'B' icon in the toolbar located just above the Message area (where you are composing your message). You will now see: [b]some text[/b]. When you preview or submit your message it will be displayed as 'some text'. Alternatively, if you know them, you can type the tags manually right along with the rest of your text or you can use the buttons at the top of the editor to insert the tags the fill in your text. The BBcode Wiki covers the basic mark up tags so let's move on to what the Wiki doesn't cover. Lists There are two types of lists: ordered and unordered. An ordered list is a numerical list like you might use to list the finishing order of a race. An unordered list is a list you might use to list groceries. There are two different tags needed to create a list. First, you use a tag that creates the kind of list you want. [ul] [/ul] = unordered list [ol] [/ol] = ordered list Second, you use a list tag for each item in the list [li] [/li] = each list item. So, the code for an ordered list would look like this: [ol] [li] 1st place[/li] [li] 2nd place[/li] [li] 3rd place[/li] [/ol] Videos Embedding a video in your post is a more recent addition to the forum and makes use of many video sharing websites on the web. This gives us the ability to show the video in our forum without having to host it ourselves or making you follow a link over some other website to see the video. Once you have a video that you want to post you need to find the unique identifier in the URL to that video. It's difficult to provide detailed instructions or examples here, so we'll only cover the basics. Understand that each video sharing website uses a unique identifier for each video. For example, this video from YouTube whose URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqJE5TH5jhc. You need to know the video's unique identifier (which differs depending on what site you visit); in our example, the unique identifier is bqJE5TH5jhc. Once you know what that unique identifier is you can embed that video in our forum by selecting the video hosting website from the 'video' drop down list at the top of the WYSIWIG editor pr typing the following: [video type=] [/video] If you were embedding a video from YouTube, for example, the bbcode would end up looking like this: [video type=youtube] insert_unique_identifier_here [/video] for example [video type=youtube] bqJE5TH5jhc [/video] It's a good idea to preview your post to make sure the video is visible before submitting your completed post. Edit your own post There will be times when you make a post and you don't catch a misspelled word, fix a broken link or something that will require you to edit you post. It happens to us all so the edit button is easily accessible. When you are looking at one of your own posts that you need to edit you will find the 'Edit' button at the bottom of your post. Simply press the edit button and you use the same editor you used to create your post populated with the actual post. Edit your post as you see fit and, when you are satisfied, press the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the page. All done! Visibility and notification of your favorite posts Now that you have settled into your new community and everyone has met you, you want to be able to keep up with your favorite posts without checking in every five minutes to see if something new has posted. There a couple of ways that you can do that. Subscribe At the top and the bottom of every thread you will find the 'Subscribe' button. Pressing this button subscribes you to that topic so that any responses to that topic will generate an email notification to your email address stating that a new post has been made along with a link directly to said post for your convenience. You will notice the button now reads 'Unsubscribe' indicating that you are subscribed and pressing the button again will remove your subscription to that thread. Remember that you can also manage your subscriptions in your profile. Favorite Another way of gaining visibility of threads that wish to keep an eye on is set them as your 'Favorite'. This will place an obvious indicator, such as a star, beside the topic name of the thread so that it will stand out in the forum list of topics. You will notice the button now reads 'Unfavorite' indicating that the post is already one of your favorites and pressing the button again will remove it from your favorites. This is a great way to get visibility on multiple topics that you wish to watch without getting spammed by email subscriptions. Remember that you can also manage your favorites in your profile. The Karma/Rating System The karma or rating system is one of those neat little things that contributes to the community aspect of a website by empowering you to give feedback to those who deserve it. It is a tool you can use to show appreciation or disapproval for anything that another member has done. Maybe you posted for help on how to do something and got such a swift and helpful response from another member that you want to show appreciation in more than just words. You can applaud them by giving them Karma/Rating. Perhaps another member responded to that same post negatively offering no help and unnecessarily making you look foolish when you genuinely needed help. You can smite them by take away Karma/Rating. However, should you smite someone, you should follow that up with a message to an admin or moderator and let them know just in case there is a larger issue. Please use the karma/rating system responsibly. Don't abuse it by artificially inflating someone's karma/rating or waging a personal war against someone by reducing their karma/rating unnecessarily. If abuse is detected the karma/rating system will be shut off as it is not a necessity. The karma/rating controls are located in the top, right of each post we make in the forum. The '+' sign adds karma/rating and the '-' takes it away. You cannot adjust your own karma/rating without receiving a backlash. Doing so will reduce you own karma/rating. Authors Right now I do not have the forum set up to be able to use our "Shortcodes" scripts, which we use in our articles. I DO NOT suggest nor do I guarantee that I ever will be able to implement this feature in the forums. Take this statement as you will. Conclusion Now that you know how to create your own posts, edit them, set notifications, etc, you are ready to explore the rest of the forum. Don't be afraid. Go click things and see what they do. If something 'breaks' or you don't understand how to use something make a post in the forum and ask for help.

How To's/How To's - Public
Author:Frank Shrum
Forum Rules These practical rules of the forum are based on standard Netiquette and are suggested for use when contributing to the eBizznessBasics discussion forum. Try to find a solution in the documentation if it's available. Try to search in forum before you post, try with different keywords. Many questions may have already been answered. Try to find a appropriate category to post in. This helps to keep the forum clean and tidy. Use an informative subject. This help people to understand your specific problem and also assist others in the future who may experience the same problem. When creating an informative subject keep in mind what the subject of your thread is about and use keywords which will help our search engine when someone else searches for that subject, later. This will, also, motivate a faster response to your problem from others. Don't hijack others' posts and keep to the subject of the thread. Try to describe your problem in detail, add relevant information like what versions of Windows (if you use windows), Internet Browser such as FireFox (my preferred browser), Internet Explorer (this site is not optimized for this browser because I no longer like optimizing for it), Chrome (specifically blocked from this site for security reasons), Opera or etc., where you were when the problem(s) occurred, and what you were doing as well as anything else you can think of which might have been a contributor to the situation. If you have suggestions for improving or extending eBizznessBasics' functionality, add them to appropriate Bug Reports section of the forum. The core team will release information when there's something to tell the community about upcoming changes, upgrades, additions &/or releases, as the case may be, to the site, in general, as well as to the members & authors sections of the site. If you would like to follow the progress, check out Twitter or have a look at the Announcements section here on the forums. You're expected to be kind at ALL times. DO NOT disrespect ANYONE!!! If you need help then post your help question(s) in the appropriate forum. When you create your thread then you must put a good name as your subject if you hope to be paid attention to. DO NOT just use lines like -  "Help!" or "I have A Question" or "I Need Help" - as these types of subject lines generally tend to be ignored by most people who could help you in a reasonably short time frame. Do not use profanity in the forums!!! This will get you sanctioned quickly. Do not post advertisements in these forums. I have supplied an appropriate place for these to be posted. Use your sig. line to place any self serving content you may want others to consume. I've been fairly generous with the amount of characters you can use at a whopping 450 chars. but do not abuse this feature as I can turn this down should I feel the need to. These rules can and probably will be amended without prior notice. This will be done at the discretion of eBizznessBasics.com and/or our staff. I will attempt to notify our members of any changes that are made here.

How To's/How To's - Public
Author:Frank Shrum
What! Another Articles Directory? Shalom , As I set down to start this "How To" article I want you to know that the reason I have placed it here in this "Public" section instead of the "Authors" section is because the "Authors" section can only be viewed by my authors and no one else and seeing as this article will be explaining "How To Become An Author on eBB" it only makes sense that it be viewable by the largest possible audience. First of all let me make one thing clear... This site IS NOT an articles directory, as such... Let me explain. An articles directory will let just about anyone post articles to it even if the "Authors" are complete idiots and know nothing about the subject they are writing about. All they have to do is not write about themselves or write their articles where they sound "Self Serving" in any way, for the most part. Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying that there are not any good articles inside these articles directories but there are sooo many people submitting articles to them that folks are drowning in a sea of information, and in some or perhaps most instances a lot of miss-information, so your article's chance of being found & read is, what I like to call, slim & none. By the way, , I do know what I'm talking about concerning the quality of these articles most people write as I used to own a website I called "ArticlesInDemand.com" and the last time I was in the back office (before I closed it down) I had over 2,000 authors and somewhere around 20,000 to 25,000 articles I was trying to struggle through reading/scanning and approving or disapproving, as the case may be. By far the majority of those articles were nothing but pure trash (SPAM type articles). Their authors depended on me being overwhelmed so I would just let them be posted to the site in batch instead of reading all of them. This batch approval method is not what I did nor do which is why there were so many still pending when I decided to close the site down, last year. I still have the early predecessor of this new idea we are discussing right now located here . I don't do much with that site any more because it is simply to much work for very little return & I believe it's simply not conducive to my business or anyone else's. The script that runs that articles directory used to occupy the place where I have installed this script at. The site is still active but I limited the authors to only a select few which turns out to be two authors. That site has somewhere around 500 to 1000 authors wanting to submit articles to it but I just ignore them 'cause I am tired of the trash most people submit. So, how do you become an author at eBzznessBasics.com??? Well that question will be answered now. How To Become An Author on eBB The way to become an author of eBizznessBasics.com is to first decide it's worth your time to be an author with us and then you must be willing to spend $10.00 per month to have the privilege of becoming one of our authors. This is the introductory price. I know, I know! You could go anywhere on the Internet to any articles directory and become an author for free but then you would have the problems I've already discussed with you. Why should you give me, or anyone else for that matter, any money to do this? Well, it's simple really... I'm going to help you make money from your articles you submit here. , if you will go to almost any articles directory and select any article you will notice that the site owner has put their google adsense ads all over that article's page and the only one who makes any money from those ads is the owner of the site. The author get none... zero... nadda... ziltch... not one bit of it. Any revenue that comes as a result of someone clicking on those ads in the authors articles is the site owner. They don't even let you speak about yourself or your business in those articles. Just in your sig line. , I'm going set your profile up so that your picture/Avatar is seen on every article you submit and make your name link to your profile which you will set up separate to the basic profile on the site. An example of this can be seen in this article that you are reading right now. Look at my picture and then look at my name under the title of the article. Those automatically appear within each article I post unless I set a code within the article, myself, telling the script not to use them. In this profile will be listed every article you submit here and you will be able to tell about your ebizzness(s) within your profile page, too. I will set up a script which you will use when you submit your article(s) and it will contain your Adsense ad codes in it so that any ad clicks that your articles receive will go to you, the author. I have a script in place, right now, that will allow this to be done. See my Adsense ads in this article? I have set up a script to be used in the articles which will make it so that you can ask people to follow you on Twitter from within your article, itself. Check this out... Follow on my Twitter page. That's what yours will do, too. After I see what kind of quality I can expect from you, , I will allow you to submit your articles and they will go live, immediately, on the site in the directory appropriate for them. Do you see how I keep on mentioning your name in this article (provided you're a member & logged in, otherwise it says Guest)? I will give you a code that you will place inside all of your articles so that you can personalize them to your readers just like I have personalized this article to you. Notice yourself how different you feel about what you're reading when you see your name right in the article? It makes you feel like the article was written especially to you and not just to anyone. Now, , I dare you to find that benifit anywhere else on the Internet in a regular ol' article directory. I will continue searching for more incentives to give to you, my authors, in order to make this an even better deal than it is right now. I believe that if a person is willing to pay money to submit articles then they will be more diligent to write high quality articles without a lot of the crap some people like to put in them and this will, in turn, help others to learn the real information they seek when they read an article. As an author, what I believe that you are telling the world by paying your hard earned money to have your articles posted on this site is that you are a quality author and you have something real to say and that you are willing to invest in your marketing and writing efforts. Quality is what the article marketing & Internet marketing fields are missing and I think it's high time that the real marketers start being noticed and they start getting paid to do so. For the time being I have put a PayPal button on the left side of the page where folks who want to become an author on eBizznessBasics.com can be able to subscribe and get started submitting their articles A.S.A.P... News/Site News
Author:Frank Shrum
It's Alive!!! Shalom , I know that a lot of people have been coming to the site and wondering when I will, at least, put something up here that makes the site look like it's alive and working. I want to thank everyone for their patience with me while I work on setting everything up and begin to unveil what it is that eBizznessBasics.com is becoming. eBizznessBasics.com and I have been around for a long time, now, (I since 1999 and eBB since about 2001) and eBB has seen several changes of it's own as well as many Many changes on the Internet at large all as we have tried to find our bearings and begin to focus all of our efforts towards one goal. , I've always been driven to find a way to help people who are, both, actively marketing on the Internet and those who are just starting out (newbies, as they are called) in this wide and varied field of Internet Marketing. You can find out how to do almost anything in the world on the Internet, you just have to wade through all of the fluff and puff and learn: First what is real and what is fluff, Second you have to try to remember where you put all of the facts you gleaned from there, and Third you have to try to figure out how to put those facts to work for you. In my humble opinion, Internet marketing, for the most part, is like eating one of those marshmallow cookies... You know the ones that have a marshmallow like dome on top and a cookie bottom all covered in chocolate... When you eat it it seems to have a good taste, and it does taste good, but when you first bite into it it's like you bit into a pocket of air. It's not until you bite into the base of it that you find anything solid enough to chew on. Then when you swallow it, no matter how much chewing you did, it feels like you just swallowed a big gulp of air and this leads to other sensations and noises which we will not specifically speak about here.

Reviews/Software Reviews
Author:Frank Shrum
Shalom , Sunbelt Personal Firewall is a program which I have used on my computers, almost, ever since I bought my first computer back in January 1999. I have tried/used several firewalls over those years and I came across this firewall back when it was called Kerio Personal Firewall before Sunbelt acquired it. Hands down it is the best free firewall you can use on your computer. I'm in the habit of searching for the best of everything when it comes to the security of my computers. It's simply to dangerous to access the Internet without having the best programs protecting you and Sunbelt Personal Firewall is the best there is. If you decide to purchase a license don't go buy just any firewall program. Sunbelt Personal Firewall works great as just the free version but paying money for it only makes it better. Now, , I can and I will promote the paid for version of this software but I'm an honest marketer so I desire to, also, make the free version easily accessible for you. You can download the free trial version and use it in the full version for 30 days by going here. Now, either I'm just stupid for giving access to the free trial version or I'm really an honest marketer or I believe in this product that much. You decide. I just wanted to include a small list (which you will see on their site when you go there) of the benefits Sunbelt Personal Firewall provides. Protect yourself from hackers. Secure your PC with a 100% free firewall download. Get the full version free for 30 days. Sunbelt Personal Firewall (SPF) was called "our favorite" by PC Magazine. The Windows Firewall (both XP and Vista) is worse than useless, it gives you a false sense of security. Why? It only filters incoming traffic. That means if malware has compromised your PC, it is able to send out all your personal info. That's right; the Windows "firewall" does not stop that! But SPF... Supports WinXP and Vista (Win7 early 2010) Filters both ingoing and outgoing traffic! Keeps hackers out and your private info inside. Works great with VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware Easy to use and does not slow down your PC! 32-bit only (64-bit support coming soon) Free & Full Version firewall software for different levels of protection , You simply can not chance logging onto the Internet without protecting your computer from those who want to access your stuff from the web and you simply can not go wrong with using Sunbelt Personal Firewall as your defence of choice against them. If you decide that you want to purchase this software so you can use all of it's features then all I ask is that you give me credit for an honest review and use my affiliate link to purchase it from their website. , I advise you to get on over there and get this software downloaded and running on you computer as quick as you possibly can. Here, here's you a handy link to use right here. Follow on my Twitter page, . Shalom, Frank Shrum eBizznessBasics.com

What your browser reveals to websites you visit. Shalom , Below I have placed a little bit of script that reveals to you what this website, as well as all websites you visit, can see about your computer's configurations as well as the components/software you have installed on your computer. This is a plugin so the information appears just below the comments area. I do this just so you can see what you have set up as well as what security you lack on your pc. Firewalls are a very important software to have on your computer as well as anti-virus protectors and a few others. , I wrote a review about the "Sunbelt Personal Firewall" that I use on all of my pc's and I highly recommend this as your front line of defence against intruders from the Internet. The only one who can see what you have, right now, is you as you view this page. This website documents these things for security as well as for marketing reason. We DO NOT sell this information but use it exclusively for our needs to be able to bring you products or services we recognize that you may be in need of. If you see something that you don't want revealed to the world being displayed below then I suggest that you check into a security consultant of your choice or investigate what software you need to get to shield you from these things being revealed to the world. Follow from my Twitter page, . Shalom, Frank This is a plugin and it appears all the way down below the comments area.
